A rich and diverse bird-life occures in this area.
The greater kruger park area falls under a subtropical vegetation zone with a rich and diverse bird-life.
Some of the birds found here are found no where else in southern South Africa or face extinction because they have been driven out of their former breeding areas.
As the greater kruger park covers such a large area, one finds different eco-zones and like the animals, birds have also adapted to their particular environments. The northern areas of the park are particularly favoured amongst bird watchers.
Most of the private lodges have a good library of birding resources for the birding enthusiast. There are also a number of resources on sale in the Kruger National Park with bird-spotting guides.
