Accommodation in Thornybush Game Reserve
The Shumbalala Game Lodge is set under shady African trees lining the seasonal Monwana river. It is found in the Thornybush Game Reserve. It lies adjacent to the Greater Kruger National Park with pristine African bushveld and an abundance of bird and mammal species including the 'Big 5'. Enjoy an uplifting experience in the bush where your senses are inspired by all that is nature. Rest after the thrilling gamedrive on the game viewing decks and swimming pools. There are also two lounges, a curio shop and a library in which to relax. Sumptuous cuisine, prepared by our well trained chef, is taken either on the lodge decks, positioned to ensure scenic vistas or by candlelight in more formal surroundings in the main dining room accompanied by a crackling fire in winter. Open air fire-side dinners are an occasion, and an opportunity to share your experience. Select your own wine in the exclusive underground cellar in full view of the water hole. Your qualified and experienced ranger and tracker are ever present accompanying you on early morning and afternoon safari drives. Bushwalks are also undertaken to please the more adventurous. Morning coffee and sundowners are enjoyed in the open veld, often in close range of wild life. The Big Five, cheetah, smaller game and birds of prey are encountered at close range.
Four luxury suites - each with its own fireplace, picture window bathroom with in - and out - door showers, and private viewing decks have been carefully constructed along the Monwana riverbed to ensure that they are completely secluded from one another.
In addition to the four suites, there is a presidential suite that boasts an extra dining room and lounge. As an added thrill, try the presidential suite's James-Bond-styled motorised deck pool that reveals itself from beneath the deck with a touch of a button.
One of the Shumbalala's key attractions is its underground wine cellar in full view of the river. This unique facility is perfect for an intimate dinner for two or can be converted into a small conference room with added atmosphere.
